General Gift Acceptance Policies
Gift Acceptance Policies are guidelines designed to help nonprofits define the types of gifts they can accept to ensure alignment with their mission and values. These policies identify acceptable gift types and the approval process for them while honoring restrictions and conditions for gifts that cannot be accepted. This standard policy helps organizations uphold ethical and legal standards while safeguarding their resources and reputation.
BibleProject's Gift Acceptance Policy
BibleProject primarily accepts unrestricted gifts to its general fund to advance our organization's mission at the discretion of the Board of Directors. (Restricted gifts may be accepted with prior written approval from the Board. BibleProject retains full discretion and control over the use of all gifts.) Patrons may not impose restrictions that would violate any of our core values, policies, or operational needs. All gifts must comply with applicable laws and regulations. BibleProject will not accept any gifts that could jeopardize its tax-exempt status.
Acceptable Giving Methods
BibleProject primarily accepts gifts through the following methods:
-
- Credit card payments through BibleProject's website or app
- ACH bank transfer via the Give page on the website (most cost-effective for gifts over $500)
- Check or cash sent to the BibleProject studio by mail
- Billpay gifts set up through personal banking institutions
- Wire transfers, provided prior written notice from BibleProject’s Finance team
Stocks and Securities
National Christian Foundation facilitates all gifts of publicly traded stocks and securities for BibleProject (for more information on this, contact us at gifts@bibleproject.com). Contributed securities will be liquidated as soon as possible, and the proceeds will be deposited into BibleProject's account.
IRAs and Qualified Charitable Distributions
Individuals over 70 1/2 can make tax-advantaged gifts to BibleProject through qualified charitable distributions from their IRAs, up to $100,000 annually. This allows patrons to support BibleProject's mission while potentially reducing their taxable income.
Real Estate and Properties
Real estate gifts may be accepted with prior approval from the CEO, CFO, and legal counsel, facilitated through the National Christian Foundation. The patron must provide an independent appraisal and clear title, and BibleProject does not accept gifts where the patron retains an interest in the property.
Estate Planning, Wills, and Trusts
Leaving a gift to BibleProject in your will or trust is a meaningful way to support the organization's long-term mission and impact. BibleProject can be listed as a beneficiary by including the following clause:
I, [NAME], of [CITY, STATE ZIPCODE], give the sum of $[AMOUNT] or [PERCENT VALUE] percent of my estate to BibleProject, a nonprofit organization located at 1302 SE Ankeny St. in Portland, OR 97214. BibleProject’s tax identification number is 46-4277592, and this gift shall be for unrestricted use and purpose.
